![]() ![]() This type of production value was way too common in 1991. The production has spoiled this batch of pleasant if ordinary rock toons. However it stumbles under the weight of layers of backing vocals and overdubs. ![]() Every song collapses under its own weight of gang “whoa whoa” backing vocals, shrill instruments, and thudding shapeless drums with all the characteristic telltale signs of samples.Ī song like “Medicine Man”, for example, is a decent if generic song on its own. The problem here is that this album is choked to death in overproduction, and I have to blame JBJ for that. Indeed, Aldo proves on several tracks that he is a burnin’ axeman, and he even takes a brief keyboard solo on “Bright Lights”. The problem with Blood On The Bricks is not lack of decent material, or lack of chops. Considering that Aldo played on several Jon Bon Jovi releases, this album will appeal mostly to fans of the Well-Coifed One. JBJ, who co-produces and co-writes pretty much every song here, has a heavy stamp on this album. He added so many electronic effects and extra guitar parts that I feel it took away from the heart of the songs.Īnd vocally…it has been 21 years since his last album and his vocals have changed. And guess what, the redoing of all these songs is just that. I was not a fan of that obviously.Īldo redoing songs from such a classic album (classic to me) was like George Lucas redoing the original Star Wars Trilogy and adding all that unwanted and unnecessary crap into it that it was so stupid. It worked so well for Bon Jovi with that piece of shit album called ‘This Left Feels Right’. There was going to be one new song, but I was a little worried about the ‘re-imagining’ part. Well, then I heard the album was a re-imagining of a handful of songs from his debut album, ‘Aldo Nova’, including “Fantasy”. I was thinking Steve Perry and Aldo Nova back after all this time, life is good. When I heard he was releasing a new album I was so excited. I discovered Aldo’s music back in the very early 80’s with his song and video for “Fantasy” and I have every album he has put out (I haven’t bought this one…yet!). And it has been way too long in my opinion. Aldo Nova is back after 21 years since his last studio album, ‘Nova’s Dream’. ![]()
